As part of our sustainability journey, we are committing to Net Zero, measuring our footprint, taking active steps to reduce our emissions, and offsetting any unavoidable emissions. But, we are also going one step further by supporting you to make your own positive impact on the environment.

We have conducted thorough measurement of our emissions from the last three years. This was done by calculating across scopes 1, 2 &3. With our GHG emissions measured, we now have the baseline understanding from which we can begin setting our company-wide net zero commitment.

As part of this important step, we are identifying our emissions hotspots and putting together an informed plan to reduce them over the course of this decade & beyond. In the meantime, we are accounting for our unavoidable emissions by funding three high-quality carbon reduction solutions across the globe, which you can read more about below.

But we are not stopping here. We are bringing our workforce with us on this climate journey by offering Furthr's personalised climate companion app. We will be sharing a piece of our offsetting with our staff, helping them mitigate their personal footprint and own a piece of our carbon reduction, whilst also learning to live greener with personalised tips and updates from our funded projects on the ground.

Project Deep Dive

The Problem

In Uganda, the prohibitive cost of alternative cooking fuels means most families rely on charcoal. The harvesting of wood for charcoal is a major contributor to the country's deforestation problem, which negatively impacts farmers' livelihoods. Inefficient cookstoves, or open fires mean that more cooking fuel is burned than necessary.

The Solution

By burning biomass based fuel (in this case, charcoal) more efficiently than the traditional open fire, efficient stoves lower the amount of cooking fuel each household needs. In turn, this reduces household emissions. Lower household emissions means less GHGs, which contribute to global warming, are released into the atmosphere.

The Problem

Since the beginning of the century, Turkey has been ranked second to China in its demand increase for electricity and natural gas. Rather than relying on oil, natural gas, and coal, sustainable electricity solutions need to be funded in order to support the country’s growing needs, without negatively impacting the environment.

The Solution

The project is made up of 35 turbines, each with an output of 3.0 MW. The total electricity production of the project is expected to be 341 MWh/year, which will be supplied to Turkey’s national electricity grid. The project also supports the local economy by creating local employment and offering trainings.

The Problem

In Eritrea, 81% of the population does not have direct access to clean water. This can lead to health problems and is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the country. Boreholes have been built in many areas, but existing hand pumps are not properly repaired due to poor management and costs. This means that many Eritreans have to burn wood to boil and sanitise their water, resulting in GHG emissions.

The Solution

The project repairs critical water infrastructure, ensuring that hand pumps provide clean, safe water. Special training is given to a Water Resource Committee who can communicate with the team and give ongoing reports on the boreholes. Community members assist technicians, developing their skills for continued maintenance.

The Problem

With a rapidly expanding economy and population, India is in dire need of a reliable and sustainable energy supply to facilitate economic growth and mitigate escalating pollution levels. The country is also a major producer and consumer of both dairy and rice, with the dairy industry in particular having a significant impact on global warming.

The Solution

The dairy company Chanakya Dairy Products are lowering their environmental impact by switching their boiling system from fossil fuel to a renewable biomass steam boiler that runs on rice husks.
