Gattaca's Net Zero target year

When Gattaca started partnering with Furthr, they had already measured their carbon footprint for two years and were in the process of getting their Net Zero targets validated.

The team at Gattaca were looking for high-quality projects to compensate for their unavoidable emissions, in a market full of options, jargon, and the risks of going for 'bad' offsets.

Furthr began the partnership by guiding the team through the selection of high-quality projects, providing ongoing support and education on the key quality criteria to look for when building a portfolio.

Overview

With its Net Zero targets in progress, Gattaca wanted to compensate for its unavoidable emissions through high-quality projects, a considerable challenge in a market crowded with jargon and questionable offsets.

Their team chose Furthr for expert guidance in building a credible portfolio, and to educate its wider team through Furthr's employee engagement platform.

Key challenges to address

Taking carbon management Furthr

Furthr's Approach

Together, we used the projects supported by Gattaca to launch the company's sustainability strategy internally to their team, providing employee webinars to demystify Net Zero whilst demonstrating the true output of their offsetting projects.

We also made sure that the projects funded were related to their field of expertise: science & technology.

The 3 projects selected include a state-of-the-art VERRA certified biomass project, generating electricity from rice husk - the protective cover usually discarded when rice is harvested - reducing the environmental impact of the Indian paper industry, by turning waste into energy (see more below).

Reporting

Building an ever-closer relationship, we took on Gattaca's carbon emissions measurement in 2023, to support the delivery of their Net Zero strategy.

We also  provided support and guidance regarding new rules and regulations that could impact the business, and provided them with a climate-related risk and opportunity analysis, aligned with the TCFD recommendations.

Engagement

Conscious that their entire team would benefit from learning more about sustainability, Furthr also provided Gattaca with workshops to upskill their staff on this complex topic.
