Benefact Group

Our offsetting brief was a mix of high-quality, third-party-assured nature-focused and technical carbon capture projects that benefit the host communities while delivering wider environmental gains. Furthr met that brief brilliantly, helping us identify a strong mix of projects that reflected what we were looking for.

Overview
Benefact Group is actively reducing emissions across its operations as part of its wider decarbonisation work.
Alongside these efforts, the Group is addressing its unavoidable emissions through high-quality carbon offsetting, supporting projects that deliver measurable climate impact and contribute to global Net Zero ambitions.
-
Selecting high-quality carbon removal projects: Benefact Group needed confidence that the projects it supported met a high standard of integrity, permanence and quality.
-
Balancing different climate impacts: The brief called for a mix of nature-focused and technical carbon removal projects, alongside wider environmental and social benefits.
-
Addressing unavoidable emissions: As Benefact Group works towards its 2040 net-zero target, it needed a credible approach to addressing unavoidable emissions through measurable and durable climate impact.
Key challenges to address
Taking carbon management Furthr
Furthr supports Benefact Group in sourcing high-integrity carbon removal projects that align with recognised quality frameworks and the Group’s commitment to credible offsetting. With carbon projects varying significantly in their quality, approach and potential impact, having the right expertise to understand what sits behind each project is an important part of making informed decisions.
This gives Benefact Group greater confidence when selecting projects to support, helping ensure its investment is directed towards projects that align with its approach to credible offsetting.
Selecting high-quality projects with measurable impact
Furthr's role extends beyond simply purchasing carbon credits. Its sustainability experts carry out detailed due diligence on each proposed project, assessing the accreditors, quality frameworks and project stakeholders involved, alongside the credibility of the project's climate impact and the wider environmental and social outcomes it delivers. This includes reviewing the methodology used to quantify carbon removals, as well as additionality, permanence, traceability, relevant Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) contributions and certifications.
Our climate experts supported Benefact Group in sourcing a portfolio of three high-quality carbon removal projects across Germany, Mexico and the UK, spanning biodiversity-focused reforestation, Indigenous forest conservation and durable carbon removal.
One of the projects is the Berlin Biodiversity Forest in Germany, where land previously used for monoculture plantations is being reforested with a mix of native species. The project supports sustainable timber production while restoring native biodiversity, strengthening climate resilience and increasing carbon sequestration.
In Mexico, the Nuevo San Juan Indigenous Forest supports the protection and sustainable management of Indigenous forest landscapes in the Michoacán region, helping to conserve valuable forest ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
In the UK, the Wretham facility operated by O.C.O Technology takes hazardous incinerator waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill and turns it into construction aggregate, mineralising CO₂ into stone where it remains locked away for more than a thousand years.
Together, the projects give Benefact Group a diversified approach to addressing unavoidable emissions, combining forest conservation, biodiversity and permanent carbon removal. Furthr helps direct funding towards credible climate projects with measurable environmental benefits.
The impact
The portfolio is built to balance durability. Forest carbon in Mexico secured by 100-year permanence commitments sits alongside mineralised carbon locked into construction aggregate for more than a thousand years, pairing living ecosystems that deliver immediate biodiversity gains with storage measured in geological time.

Every credit is independently verified against its accreditation standard before issuance and retired in Benefact Group's name, leaving a fully traceable record.
Certified contributions span nine Sustainable Development Goals, from Indigenous community governance and rural livelihoods to hazardous waste diverted from landfill and native habitat restored at scale.
Directing funding towards durable removal at commercial scale also helps build capacity the wider market will need as demand grows.
For Benefact Group, the outcome is 1,200 tonnes addressed through projects that stand up to scrutiny today and remain defensible as offsetting standards tighten.
