A technology that uses mechanical and chemical processes to pull CO₂ directly from the ambient air.

The captured CO₂ is then either permanently stored underground (in which case it becomes DACCS, Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage) or used in industrial processes. It is considered a "long-lived" or durable removal because the carbon is stored geologically for centuries to millennia.
