Noun (abbreviation)

SLCPs (short-lived climate pollutants) are greenhouse gases or air pollutants that remain in the atmosphere for less time than long-term climate pollutants but often contribute significantly to global warming in the near term.

💡To Note:

  • SLCPs are also known as short-lived climate forcers or SLCFs.

  • Although they are not in the atmosphere for very long, many SLCPs have a high global warming potential while they are there, trapping a lot of energy in a short space of time.

  • Examples of SLCPs include methane and black carbon.

  • You can read about SLCPs in more detail in this blog post.
