About this Project
The Problem
Mexico has lost more than 5 million ha of temperate pine-oak forest over the past 30 years to illegal logging, agricultural conversion, mining concessions, and the abandonment of community-owned forests when sustainable management becomes economically unviable.
The Solution
This project protects indigenous-community-owned pine-oak forest against illegal logging by monetising the incremental carbon stored in standing live and dead biomass.
By financing community fire brigades, plantation reinvestment, and the maintenance of low-intensity silviculture (MMOBI/MDS) over a notarised 100-year horizon, the credits stabilise the economic case for keeping the forest standing rather than converting it.
