About this Project
The Problem

Despite their proximity to waterways, communities in the Mekong River Delta have very limited access to clean drinking water. To avoid waterborne diseases, most households boil their drinking water over open fires, an activity which generates greenhouse gases (GHGs), harms local ecosystems and biodiversity through deforestation, and exposes family members, particularly women and children, to higher levels of air pollution within the home.

The Solution

The project distributes ceramic water purifiers free of cost to households in rural communities. The filters provide an alternative to boiling water so it can be safely consumed, reducing wood fuel consumption, GHG emissions, and deforestation in the region as well as improving home air quality for recipients.
