About this Project
The Problem

Italy faces land degradation, rural abandonment, and increased wildfire risks, which threaten carbon stocks and biodiversity.

No agricultural carbon project had previously operated at scale in Italy, and EU CAP eco-scheme subsidies are too unstable to reliably fund farmers' transition to regenerative practices, leaving both soil degradation and rural climate exposure largely unaddressed.

The Solution

This project mobilises carbon finance to scale regenerative practices across 67 farms covering 1,474 hectares, enhancing soil carbon stocks, restoring fertility, and strengthening ecosystem services. Beyond carbon, the initiative supports farmer livelihoods, increases climate resilience, and contributes directly to Italy’s sustainability goals by fostering landscapes that are productive, biodiverse, and aligned with the UN SDGs.

By championing sustainability, the initiative significantly contributes to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change, while transforming Italy's agricultural landscape for a more sustainable future.
