About this Project
The Problem
In the UK, air‑pollution‑control residues from waste‑to‑energy plants are currently neutralised and landfilled. This has a negative impact on our environment and also economy, as this process causes increased disposal costs, occupation of landfill capacity, and overall generates net positive greenhouse‑gas emissions.
The Solution
Our climate partner, O.C.O Technology delivers a process called Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) which chemically stabilises the alkaline residues in air pollution, while permanently mineralising injected biogenic and atmospheric CO₂, converting the waste into a certified lightweight aggregate.
This valorises a hazardous by‑product, avoids landfill, and delivers verifiable negative emissions. Ongoing R&D targets renewable energy supply and Direct Air Capture (DAC) integration to further mitigate ecological risks and enhance carbon removal efficiency.
